Ballarat definitely brought a memorable weekend of quality food, wine and hospitality to say the least..
Last weekend Shaun and I had the opportunity to experience the best of Ballarat, visiting a number of the local hotspots well renowned for providing the best of the best when it comes to their niche; fine food, wine and fragrances.
Being locals of Ballarat, we admit it was quite exciting to know that finally an event was coming to us, instead of having to venture down the highway to Melbourne. Finally we had the opportunity to showcase our community, putting it straight that Ballarat isn't the small country town that everyone thinks it is..
Want to know what we got up to?
Our Saturday began at 11.00am, when we checked into our luxurious Premier Apartments suite. I can't begin to put into words how beautiful and well styled our room was.. I probably would have been content just hanging out on the comfy armchairs featured below! The fact that they were also located in the heart of the city, meant that we could easily stroll over to our next events location..
Lunch was held at Mitchell Harris Wine Bar- boasting with an amazing rustic aesthetic, this was the perfect place to set up shop for the afternoon (plus get a few sneaky IG shots). Let me tell you the part owner and wine maker here, John Harris, knows he's stuff. While we were presented with a massive selection of quality food and wine, the fact that he could get the aromas of a mint biscuit out of one of the reds, not just caught us by surprise, but made me smell it twice and come to the same conclusion also..
After possibly a few too many wine tastings (not that I was complaining), we made our way to Sweet Fern Perfumery. Our afternoon was then spent immersing ourselves in the best smelling fragrances I have come across, including this delicious House of Lubin 'Akkad' perfume (talk about a to die for bottle!).. a few cheeky glasses of bubbles and turkish delights to match may have also followed!
Time flew by, and before we knew it we had to make our way back to our suite at Premier Apartments to get dolled up for dinner. I was pretty content, with an oriental spicy fragrance lingering around me after my amazing perfumery visit.
After a quick refresh before dinner, taxi's were awaiting us to take us to our final destination for the evening- Restaurant Ballarat. Here we indulged in 5 star food and wine until we literally could not fit in another bite. I definitely don't think it's possible to narrow down my favourite dish, from a Thai Chicken Salad for entree through to malt popping candy making an appearance in our dessert, the dining experience curated by Catfish Thai, Salt Kitchen Charcuterie and Peter Ford Catering was exceptional.
After our eventful Saturday, nothing seemed quite as fitting as winding down the weekend with a couple of espressos and a quality brunch at Yellow Espresso. Being Ballarat locals, we
sussed out 'yellow' long ago! With undoubtably the best coffee on offer in Ballarat, as well as a killer baked eggs, we wouldn't have wanted to visit anywhere else for our Sunday brunch.
Thankyou to the beautiful teams at Visit Ballarat and Broadsheet for giving us the opportunity to indulge in a weekend of Ballarat bliss!
